Selection in PGP Programme

Selection

In selecting candidates for admission to the post-graduate programmes, our endeavour is to select a batch with a mix of candidates from diverse educational backgrounds. The selection procedure is a two-stage process.
In the first stage, candidates to be called for group discussion and personal interview are short-listed from among those who have applied to IIMA’s post-graduate programmes. The GAT score is only one of the inputs used in drawing up the shortlist; the other inputs used are past academic background and achievements, and post-degree work experience.

In the second stage, candidates to be admitted to the post-graduate programmes are selected from among those who have attended the group discussion and personal interviews. In preparing this admission list, inputs such as performance in group discussion and personal interview, the GAT score, academic background and achievements, extra-curricular activities, and post-degree work experience, are taken into consideration.

Thus, the short-listing of candidates for group discussions and personal interviews, and the final selection for admission to the post-graduate programmes, are based on multiple criteria, and not on the GMAT score alone. In other words, it is possible that a candidate with a higher GMAT score than another candidate may not be short-listed for group discussion and personal interview/ may not be selected for admission. The candidate with the lower GMAT score may be short-listed for group discussion and personal interview/ selected for admission because of his/her performance on dimensions other than the GMAT score.

Rising numbers of job drop outs at IIM-Banglore

A staggering 40 percent of IIM-B graduates, who accepted offers from global firms at the campus selection, have quit their jobs within months, in the last two years. The IIM-B is now devising ways to bring the number of drop-outs down so that its pre-placement exercises are meaningful. While global firms have shown immense interest in IIM-B graduates, many new recruits appear to get disillusioned with the overseas jobs and return home to work in India. IIM-B officials believe that often the communication-gap leads to the drop out. Most employers are investment banks, consultant firms, and financial services. There seems to be a
