No autonomy may dent Brand IIM
Brand IIM might just have to think of a fresh branding exercise. With the Centre toying with the idea of pulling the autonomy carpet from under the feet of the IIMs, ripples are already being felt among directors and faculty.
IIMs feel that the Bill, once it becomes an Act like the Institutes of Technology Act of 1961, is an ominous sign for the future of the premier institutions.
Most of all, it will affect the already existing faculty crunch in IIMs.If and when it comes through, the Bill will adversely affect the administrative, financial and academic functioning of the IIMs, said IIM-Bangalore director Prakash Apte.

IIMs want autonomy, time before quota
AHMEDABAD: The interim report that Samuel Paul, chairman of the Core Group On Management Institutions, submitted to the Oversight Committee on Thursday says all six IIMs have asked for more time before the implementing the 27% OBC quota. The report also recommends more autonomy for these institutes to fix salaries of its faculty. IIMs need to increase their capacity by 54%, if the 27% quota is to be implemented, the report adds. The final timeframe for implementation of the quota will be decided on July 17. On Friday however, Paul will be holding talks with Oversight Committee head Verappa Moily.
