B-schools seek out global tag for some extra shine

International accreditation seems to be the buzzword among several top Indian B-schools. IIM (Ahmedabad), XLRI, Jamshedpur, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai and the like are gearing up to benchmark themselves against the best in the world.

This move will not only further the institutes global ambitions and attract foreign students, but will also help them tie up with their better-known international counterparts for offering joint programmes and carrying out student exchanges.

Recently, IIM-A announced its decision to apply for the coveted EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation, to enhance its global positioning. According to an IIM-A spokesperson, the institute has already initiated the process by applying for membership to European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a non-profit organisation that accredits business schools internationally. The application for EQUIS is to follow soon.

Entering into research partnerships with reputed universities abroad would help IIMs attain an improved global ranking.
