190,000 students take B-school entrance test

Over 190,000 students, about 10 percent more than last year, Sunday appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted across the country by the six Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

The tests are meant to select students for admission to the prestigious MBA programme of the IIMs. About 80 other business schools also base their admission process on CAT scores, making it one of the most competitive exams in the country.

`We had received 190,000 applications from students and we expect these students to have taken the exams as they had applied for the forms,` told IIM-Ahmedabad spokesperson Ashok K. Shah.

This year has seen an increase in the number of aspirants, up from around 170,000 students in 2005.
