The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) was founded in the year 1973 by the Government of India as a centre of excellence in management schools in the world - an Institute with international standards of post-graduate and doctral level teaching, executive education for senior and middle management, research and consulting.

Programmes and Activities
The major programmes and activities of the Institute are:
The Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM) launched in 1998 is a management education programme designed for the specific needs of professionals working in the software and information technology industries;

The Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) launched in 2002 is helping to hone policy-making and managerial capabilities in government.

The International Masters Program in Practising Management (IMPM), an international collaborative executive education program jointly offered by IIMB with INSEAD, McGill University, Lancaster University and a consortium of Japanese universities is globally recognised as a major innovation in executive education;

Established through a generous endowment, the N.S. Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at IIMB is a catalyst for entrepreneurial activity.

In addition to the long-duration programmes (PGP, PGSEM, PGPPM and FPM), IIMB offers a wide range of top quality executive education programmes to meet the continuing education needs of business executives.

The Institute publishes the IIMB Management Review, a quarterly journal with a strong application focus.

Infrastructure and Facilities
IIM B has over 18 thirty high-tech classrooms, an adminstrative building, student hostels, an Executive Block, a fully air-conditioned Management Development Centre, and residential buildings. Banking, postal, and shopping facilities are also available on the campus.

Library
The Institute Library houses around 1.70 lakh documents (books, journal back volumes, government publications, technical reports, conference proceedings, microfilms, and microfiche.) The library receives about 1125 periodicals, 150 newsletters and 2200 annual reports from public and private organisations and maintains 250 press clipping files on management and related subjects.

State-of-the-art-Computing
IIMB has one the finest computing environments among management institutes in the country. Operating around the clock, with over 400 desktops, high quality servers, access to several high speed, high quality servers, access to several high speed, high quality laser and colour inkjet printers and a campus wide network with access to the Internet, it offers all a student might need.

Post-Graduate Programme in Management
The two-year Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is designed as a full-time residential course for graduates who wish to pursue carrers in management.

Eligibility
At least a three-year Bachelor degree or equivalent in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities/AICTE as eligible for Post Graduate studies. Candidates in the final are also eligible to apply.

Placement
The Placement Office of the institute assists graduates in career planning and obtaining responsible positions in business, industry, and government systems. The average compensation package in 2004 for offers based in India was Rs. 7.0 lakhs. The annual compensation packages for the 15 students accepting jobs abroad ranged from USD 29,000 to USD 78,500 equivalent for positions based in USA, Japan, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.
